8. Staten Island Ferry Route: The only free ferry route is also the oldest. The Whitehall Terminal is located at 4 Whitehall Street and travels to St. George Terminal in Staten Island. You can take the #1 subway line into Whitehall Terminal. This is my favorite route. It offers beautiful views of lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. If you ride the ferry about a 1/2 hour before sunset, you will see a daylight view and the NYC Skyline all lit at night on the route back.
